Kantha Quilts

‘Kantha’ in Sanskrit translates to ‘rags’ and is the name given to the blanket village women would make for their families by stitching together layers of their old saris.

Today these quilts are revered for their humble origins and recognised as a beautiful handicraft of India.

I have curated a lovely collection of both antique quilts, lovingly made by a woman for her own family, with the tiniest of stitching, taking weeks to sew, AND newly made quilts from vintage saris, supporting a small women’s sewing collective and recycled fabric initiative in Barmer, Rajasthan.

Each quilt is a one-of-kind beauty, unique in colour, print, texture and weight. Both sides of the quilt will be different. Deliciously soft, and eternally useful on the bed, sofa, in the car, for spontaneous picnics and beach days….
