Vintage grain sieves

Beautiful old brass grain sieves. 

Still in India today, you will see women sitting on the ground sifting through rice and lentils, to remove small stones and impurities with these sieves. 
This humble ritual necessary as grains are purchased by weight from a merchant, not in a plastic packet from a supermarket, pre-sifted in a factory.

These pieces not only have interesting histories, but are functional and beautiful in our kitchens today.
